Departure for the visit of Jerash or Gerasa, today without a doubt one of the most beautiful preserved Roman cities in the Near East, the city of 1000 pillars. After Petra, Jerash is Jordan’s second largest tourist destination. Then return to ancient Amman, formerly known as Philadelphia, one of the cities of the Roman decapolis. You will be able to discover its theatres, its colonnades, the Temple of Hercules, the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Traditions and the Museum of Folklore as well as the new city of Amman. Jarash The most remarkable monuments of the city are: Hadrian’s Arch, the circus/hypodrome, two huge temples dedicated to Zeus and Artemis, the Forum, oval in shape and surrounded by a beautiful colonnade; a long columned avenue, two theatres (the Great South Theatre and the Little North Theatre), two baths, several minor temples, and almost complete walls. Most of these monuments were built with donations from the city’s wealthiest residents. Since 350 there was a large Christian community in the city and between 400 and 600 more than thirteen churches were built, many of them with rich mosaic floors. The cathedral was built in the 4th century. For the quality and degree of preservation of its archaeological remains, Jerash has been called the Asiatic Pompeii. It is the second largest tourist attraction in Jordan, after Petra. Self-guided tour of Amman Amman                 You will drive to visit. Between Roman ruins, traditional markets, elegant mosques, trendy cafes and a cosmopolitan population, Amman is the embodiment of contemporary Jordan. Visit the Citadel (Jabal Al-Qala’a) and indulge in stunning views of the city center. Jabal Al-Qala’a sits on the highest hill in Amman, overlooking the ancient capital Rabbath-Ammon. You can then visit the magnificent Roman Theatre as well as the majestic King Abdullah Mosque.

Depart for Madaba Discover Madaba, a village mentioned in the Bible and well known for its Byzantine mosaics. Visit the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, where the huge mosaic map of Madaba is located. Continue to Mount Nebo, the perfect place to take in panoramic views of the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. From there we head to Ash Shawbak Castle for the tour. Your day will end on a high note on the Dead Sea Today, its coast, partially inhabited, is very peaceful. Its landscapes have hardly changed since antiquity, making it a privileged place for car rides. Dinner and Overnight at the hotel Madaba Admire the Map of the Holy Land, an amazing mosaic dating back to the sixth century, preserved in the oldest church in the world, St. George’s. Mount Nebo It is the most revered holy site in Jordan, and an important pilgrimage site for early Christians. Moses beheld the promised land there before his death.

Depart for a water hike to Wadi Mujib. In the afternoon, drive to Kerak. Arriving in Kerak, you will visit its castle reputed to be impregnable, ancient and imposing Crusader fortress. Lunch on your own in Kerak then you will drive along the road of the kings and continue south to the pink city Petra for overnight. Walk through the Siq Trail to Wadi Mujib, 2-3 hours On foot, you walk partly in the water through the lowest part of the Mujib Valley. The Siq Trail passes through Wadi Mujib, the lowest nature reserve in the world. 420 meters below sea level and through an impressive sandstone gorge. Siq Trail is the shortest and most popular. Especially during the summer months, it’s an ideal cooling. The water is refreshing and most of the time you walk in the shade. Whistling birds accompany you in the white waters. The tranquil stream slowly changes into a strong river. You have to climb rocks that get in the way. Visit to Kerak Castle Karak City Discover this imposing fortress, a fortification dating back to the 12th century.

A full day dedicated to visiting the site of Petra (guided tour = 3hrs approximately) Located a three-hour drive south of Amman, Petra was left to us by the Nabataeans, a hard-working Arab nation who settled in the southern tip of Jordan more than 2000 years ago. Renowned for its refined culture, massive architecture and ingenious system of reservoirs and water supply canals, Petra is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a site that enchants visitors from all over the world. Guided tour of beautiful Petra Petra Your English-speaking guide will show you the ancient city of Petra from the entrance of the Siq. Petra is sometimes referred to as “The Lost City”. Despite its importance in antiquity, after the 1812th century AD Petra was completely forgotten in the West. It was rediscovered in by a Swiss traveller, Johann Ludwig Burckhardt, who managed to enter this jealously guarded site by pretending to be an Arab who had come from India to perform a sacrifice at the tomb of the prophet Aaron. Visit Petra, the Pink City: the Siq, the Khazneh, the Deir, the Amphitheater, the Obelisk Tomb, the Monastery.

  • – Duration of the guided tour: 2h30 to 3h. Afterwards, you will be able to continue the visit of the site in complete freedom.
  • – The site opens around 6am, ask your guide for an early morning tour, the light on the site is great and it is not too crowded.
  • – Key moments: in the morning the Khazneh (treasure) is illuminated by the sun and in the evening around 18 p.m.: the sun sets over the royal tombs.
  • – It’s very hot on site so don’t forget your hat and sunscreen:)
  • – Bring good walking shoes: 23km over a full day and a lot of elevation gains, stairs, rocks etc…

After breakfast, you will continue driving on the road south towards the Wadi Rum desert This place is breathtaking, timeless and has been left almost untouched by men and their destructive activities. Here, it was water and wind that sculpted these gigantic and imposing towers, elegantly described by T.E. Lawrence as “vast, resonant, in the image of God.” 4×4 jeep tour (approx. 2 hrs) Dinner and overnight in a Bedouin camp. Visit to “Little Petra” Little Petra You enter the site through a narrow gorge called Siq Al-Barid, the “Cold Siq”. The name refers to the fact that the high walls prevent sunlight from entering the canyon and heating it. The Siq is 350 meters long with three wider areas inside. Little Petra is believed to have been an important suburb of Petra, the entry and exit point for the northern and northwest trade routes. Caravans from the Negev, Gaza, Jerusalem, Egypt, and the Mediterranean coast came here, rested, and traded. As in Petra, the buildings had been carved out of sandstone, used as residences, storehouses and tombs as well as canals and water cisterns. In one of the buildings are the remains of frescoes painted with birds, grapes and flowers, dating back to the first century AD. Self-guided tour.
