After breakfast, depart early for Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and Jordan’s most treasured site. Today, explore the legendary Lost City of Petra, carved directly into rose-red sandstone cliffs. Founded more than 2,000 years ago by the Nabataean Arabs, Petra became a major trading center along the ancient silk and spice routes connecting Arabia, Egypt, Syria, Greece, and Rome. Its beauty and mystery have also made it famous in films such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Mummy Returns. Begin your visit by passing ancient tombs before entering the Siq, a dramatic narrow gorge stretching nearly 1,200 meters. Towering rock walls rise over 100 meters above you as the path winds through the canyon. Suddenly, the passage opens to reveal Al-Khazneh (The Treasury), Petra’s most iconic monument. Carved in the 1st century BC, the Treasury stands nearly 43 meters high. Scholars believe it served first as a royal tomb and later as a Nabataean temple. Beyond the Treasury, explore Petra’s vast archaeological area, filled with royal tombs, temples, a Nabataean theater, water channels, stairways, markets, and paved streets. Overnight in Petra.
